Two ways to take the exam
Florida gives you two options for the Class E Knowledge Exam: online through a state-approved provider, or in person at a DHSMV office or a participating county tax collector office.
Taking it online
Register with an approved online exam provider, complete the monitored test from home, and receive your result. You still visit an office in person afterward to submit your documents and finish your permit.
Taking it in person
Make an appointment at your local DHSMV or county tax collector driver license office. Walk-ins may be accepted in some locations, but an appointment usually means a shorter wait.
On test day
- Bring your required identity and residency documents.
- Arrive a few minutes early if you have an appointment.
- Read each of the 50 questions carefully; you need 40 correct to pass.
Practice until you are consistently scoring above 80 percent, then book your exam and go in ready.
